Slice of Life Challenge 2010

I'm planning to once again participate in the Slice of Life Challenge hosted by Stacey and Ruth over at Two Writing Teachers. I tried last year as well as presenting it to my students: I had one taker and she didn't really write SoL as much as she did diary entries. I'm going to try it myself again this year and with my kiddos. I think my 7th graders will be all over it. They love things like this. they are the ones who did Nanowrimo with me. They're such great kids!

Snowed

Our backyard with the blueberry bushes laden with snow

After all those storms missed us these last few weeks, we are finally getting slammed. By 7 am we had about 14 inches by John's estimate. Needless to say, no school today. It's one of those things where I have mixed feelings. I don't mind having the day off, even though we just had vacation. On the other hand, this is the second Wednesday snow day which means that the kids are missing another rehearsal for the spring musical (they only meet on Wednesdays) and the production is coming up in a few weeks.

So I have a day to try to regroup- correct papers, try to get ready for midterm reports, prepare lessons- and maybe relax a little, read a little.

Real Live Author

Today we met Cynthia Lord at a book signing for her new book, Hot Rod Hamster. It was so much fun!

After talking with Cindy for a while we wandered around Barnes & Noble. It took a great deal of will power to not load my arms with books! I saw so many books that I want to get for my classroom and for my self. It also made me want to write!!
